Malcolm D. Lee-directed Space Jam: A New Legacy, a 2021 American live-action/animated sports comedy film based on a script by Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Keenan Coogler, Terence Nance, Jesse Gordon, and Celeste Ballard. The film is a standalone sequel to Space Jam (1996) and marks the first time since Looney Tunes: Back in Action that the Looney Tunes characters have been included in a theatrical release (2003). The film stars LeBron James as a fictitious version of himself, with live-action parts played by Don Cheadle, Khris Davis, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Cedric Joe, and Looney Tune's voice actors Jeff Bergman, Eric Bauza, and Zendaya. A fraudulent artificial intelligence dubbed Al-G Rhythm draws James and his son, Dom, into a Warner Bros.-themed virtual multiverse in the film. James runs into the Looney Tunes characters and enlists their help in rescuing Dom and earning their freedom in a basketball game against the Al-avatars. G's
Following its release, talks about a sequel to Space Jam began. The project was finally halted owing to Michael Jordan's unwillingness to return. Director Joe Pytka was attached to return in that role, while animation supervisors Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone were signed on, but the project was eventually stalled due to Michael Jordan's refusal to return. Several other spin-offs centered on other players, such as Jeff Gordon, Tiger Woods, and Tony Hawk, were also planned, but none came to fruition. After years of development hell, a LeBron James-led sequel was finally confirmed in 2014, with filming set to take place in Los Angeles from June to September 2019. Nance quit the movie in July 2019 after a few weeks of filming and was replaced by Lee.
Space Jam: A New Legacy had its world premiere on July 12, 2021, in Los Angeles, and Warner Bros. Pictures released it in cinemas and on HBO Max for a month on July 16, 2021. The film grossed $148 million worldwide and garnered mostly poor reviews from critics, who criticized the film's excessive commercial promotion and considered it missing its predecessor's self-referential humor, but the animation, visual effects, and performances received some appreciation.

Storyline: Space Jam: A New Legacy
LeBron wants his boys, Darius and Dominic, to pursue basketball careers in the future. Dom desires to be a video game creator, whereas LeBron's endeavors with Darius are advanced. While Dom is showing LeBron his game, they come upon a bug that causes the character to be deleted if a specific move is performed.
LeBron and his family are called to Warner Bros. Studios to explore a film agreement. LeBron dislikes the notion, while Dom is intrigued by the studio's Warner 3000 software, notably their artificial intelligence, Al-G Rhythm. Dom expresses his dissatisfaction with LeBron's ambitions, which leads to an argument. Al-G, now self-aware, lures them to the server room in the basement and traps them in the Warner Bros. Serververse. After imprisoning Dom, Al-G instructs LeBron to assemble a basketball team to compete against his own, to earn his freedom only if he wins, and then sends him to Tune World via the Serververse. Except for Bugs Bunny, who says that Al-G persuaded the other Looney Tunes to leave their planet and explore other worlds, LeBron finds Tune World deserted. Using Marvin's spacecraft, the two travel to several worlds in search of other Looney Tunes to join the Tune Squad. Meanwhile, Al-G convinces Dom to enable him to assist him in improving himself and his game, which he plans to utilize against LeBron.
LeBron insists on teaching the Tune Squad the fundamentals of basketball in Tune World. They run across Al-Goon G's Squad, which is made up of basketball avatars and captained by Dom. As more Serververse residents come, Al-G live streams the game and abducts several viewers, including LeBron's family, into the virtual world. If the Goon Squad wins, Al-G threatens to delete the Looney Tunes and imprison the real-world spectators indefinitely.
The Goon Squad dominated the opening half, scoring additional points with their special abilities. LeBron sees his error, allowing Bugs to create a strategy for the second half based on cartoon physics. LeBron apologizes to Dom during a timeout, and he forgives him and joins the Tune Squad. Al-G takes command of the Goon Squad and uses his skills to significantly improve their performance. LeBron offers to perform the maneuver, recalling the malfunction in Dom's game, but Bugs does it instead. With Dom's help, LeBron hit the game-winning point, eliminating Al-G and the Goon Squad. As Bugs separates from his pals before degenerating, the Serververse viewers are restored to their own planets, and Lebron's family and the other real-world spectators are returned to Earth.
Dom was allowed to attend the E3 Game Design Camp a week later, thanks to LeBron's assistance. He later reunites with Bugs, who reveals that his cartoon physics has allowed him to regenerate, as well as the fact that his buddies have also arrived on Earth. The Looney Tunes are reluctantly allowed to stay with LeBron until they can return to Tune World.

Some trifles: Space Jam: A New Legacy
Coach Al-G Rhythm of the Goon Squad begins to lose his calm as the Tune Squad tries to claw away at their 1,000-point halftime deficit. He tosses a chair at the referee at one point, referencing Bobby Knight, who does the same.
After the video, Bugs Bunny invites himself and the other Tunes over to the James family house for supper, a reference to LeBron James' 2019 attempt to trademark the phrase "Taco Tuesday."
Rick and Morty was the first animated series to be released in theaters. And because this is their first appearance in a family film, their show is geared toward adults rather than children.
Klay Thompson, an NBA player, tore his ACL before filming. TMZ obtained footage of Klay meeting up with LeBron on set on crutches on June 27, 2019, indicating that Klay was still able to work on the project.
"That's all, folks," Bugs says before he "dies" in Tune World. While the statement is primarily associated with Porky Pig, these are fitting final words, as Mel Blanc's tombstone reads "That's all, folks" (the original voice of both Porky and Bugs).
After the timer goes off, Al G Rhythm appears, and Tune World begins to tremble in anticipation of his presence. Wile E. Coyote and The Roadrunner are seen rapidly grasping each other in a security cling embrace once this occurs. Even though they had been enemies for a long time, this scene shows them trying to console one another.
After their team defeated The Monstars in Space Jam (1996), The Tunes and Michael Jordan never met again, based on their attitudes in the film. However, after defeating The Goon Squad with the help of LeBron James, The Tunes venture out into the real world, find LeBron, and, based on the images displayed during the end credits, he welcomes them into his life.
The Martians, the enemies from the original [Space Jam], make a brief appearance in the film in two 'blink and you'll miss it' moments. Those shots were not created from scratch but rather were directly duplicated from the original film. When you look closely, you can tell that the initial scene of the Martians cheering has been digitally expanded by reversing the footage.
Mistakes: Space Jam: A New Legacy
- When LeBron and Dom arrive at the Warner 3000 Serververse, LeBron asks Dom if he's all right, and he replies, "I'm OK, Dad." However, his lips never twitched in response to that.
