The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed is a 2021 American biographical crime drama film directed by Ridley Scott and based on Sara Gay Forden's 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, the wife of Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), as their relationship turns into a battle for control of the fashion house Gucci. Other cast members include Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino.

Since acquiring the rights to Forden's book in the early 2000s, Ridley Scott has sought to make a film about the Gucci dynasty. Before Scott and Gaga were announced as involved in November 2019, the project languished for several years and went through a slew of directors and rumored actors. The rest of the actors arrived in Italy the next summer, and filming resumed in February 2021 and lasted until May 2021.

The House of Gucci had its international premiere on November 9, 2021, at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, and United Artists Releasing is set to release it theatrically in the United States on November 24, 2021.

Storyline: House of Gucci (2021)

The Gucci family's Italian fashion house was the inspiration for the House of Gucci. When Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), an outsider from poor circumstances, marries into the Gucci family, her uncontrolled ambition begins to destroy the family tradition, setting off a dangerous cycle of betrayal, decadence, retribution, and... murder.

The New York Times summarized the plot: "The film follows the ambitious Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) as she romances Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) and marries her way into the dynastic Italian luxury label." The family business has little appeal for scholarly Maurizio, and his father, Rodolfo (Jeremy Irons), and uncle Aldo wield the real power (Al Pacino). Patrizia will have to push the rest of the family against each other if she wants to be a true force at Gucci. Even Patrizia and Maurizio eventually fall out, and her fury towards him quickly turns homicidal.

Patrizia Reggiani was considered for Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Margot Robbie, and Natalie Portman.

Robert De Niro was rumored to be in talks to play Rodolfo Gucci, but he later dropped out.

François-Henri Pinault, the founder, and CEO of the French multinational Kering, which owns the Gucci brand as of 2021, is married to Salma Hayek.

While Ridley Scott wanted Adam Driver to play Maurizio Gucci, there were initial schedule conflicts. If Driver's schedule could not be cleared, Chris Evans was considered as a backup. The schedule eventually cleared, and the Driver was able to take over the position.

Monica Bellucci was approached about playing Pina Auriemma, but she declined due to schedule issues.
