Juno is a coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody that was released in 2007. She plays the titular role, a self-assured adolescent who is confronted with an unanticipated pregnancy and the events that follow that place adult life expectations on her. In addition to Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, and J. K. Simmons, the film stars Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, and J. K. Simmons. Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, from early February to early March 2007. It had its world premiere on September 8, 2007, at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.

Juno won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and was nominated for three other awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Page, who is only 20 years old (the fifth-youngest nominee in the category). The film's soundtrack, which featured many songs performed by Kimya Dawson in various guises, was the first number one soundtrack since Dreamgirls and Fox Searchlight's first. Juno made back its $6.5 million budget in twenty days, the first nineteen of which were spent on limited distribution. It went on to gross $231 million globally. Juno garnered positive reviews from critics, with several including it in their top ten lists for the year. Members of both the anti-abortion and pro-abortion sectors have criticized and praised it for its treatment of abortion.

Storyline: Juno

Juno MacGuff, a sixteen-year-old Minnesota high schooler, learns that her friend and longtime admirer Paulie Bleeker is pregnant. She considers having an abortion at first. When she goes to a local women's clinic, she runs into a classmate who is holding a one-person anti-abortion vigil outside. However, once inside, Juno is compelled to leave due to a number of causes. Instead, she decides to place the baby for adoption. Juno scans the Pennysaver classifieds with the help of her friend Leah and finds a couple she believes will provide a good home. She informs her father, Mac, and stepmother, Bren, who are both supportive.

Juno visits Mark and Vanessa Loring at their opulent house with Mac and agrees to a closed adoption. Juno pays a couple of visits to Mark, with whom she shares punk rock and horror film preferences. Mark works at home creating commercial jingles, putting aside his rock band days (which are now relegated to mementos exhibited in the one room of the house that Vanessa has allocated for Mark's possessions). Juno and Leah happen to visit Vanessa in a shopping center with a child, and Juno encourages Vanessa to talk to her baby in the womb, which kicks for her.

Juno struggles with her feelings for the baby's father, Paulie, who is clearly in love with her as the pregnancy progresses. Juno appears to be unconcerned about him on the surface, but when she discovers that he has asked another girl to the forthcoming prom, she confronts him in a jealous frenzy. Paulie reminds Juno that they are staying apart at her request, and tells her she broke his heart.

Juno visits Mark again not long before her baby's due date, and their encounter turns emotional. Mark then informs Vanessa that he will be leaving her to figure out his life. Mark asks Juno, "What do you think of me?", admitting he is starting to develop affections for her. Juno is shocked by this revelation. When Vanessa gets home, Mark tells her that he doesn't feel ready to be a father yet and that he still has a lot of things he wants to accomplish first. Juno watches the Loring marriage crumble before driving away and crying on the side of the road. She returns to the Lorings' house, leaves a letter, and then vanishes as soon as they open the door.

After a passionate conversation with her father, Juno accepts that she loves Paulie. Juno then tells Paulie that she loves him, and Paulie's actions show that she feels the same way. Juno goes into labor shortly after and is transported to the hospital, where she gives birth to a boy. She hadn't told Paulie because he was competing in a track meet. Paulie goes to the hospital after noticing Juno's absence from the stands, where she discovers Juno has given birth to their son and consoles her as she sobs.

Vanessa arrives at the hospital and proudly announces herself as the single adoptive mother of a newborn child. Vanessa has framed Juno's note, which reads, "Vanessa: If you're still in, I'm still in." on the wall of the baby's new nursery. The film concludes with Juno and Paulie, who is in a loving relationship, playing guitar and singing together in the summertime.

Some trifles: Juno

J.K. Simmons stated that he was so taken with the script that he would have been content merely to play the teacher with no dialogue if it meant he could be in the movie.

Within a 30-day filming timetable, it was difficult to depict all four seasons. Spring cherry blossoms were digitally darkened to look like summer flowers, while production members off-camera threw falling silk leaves for autumn. Before the snow could melt, there was a fluke snowstorm (rare for March in Vancouver), and three different pictures were planned that day. Because adding fake snow to a scene may be costly, this saved the picture a lot of money for the winter scenes.

When Jennifer Garner agreed to a percentage-point deal for Juno, it was thought to be a modest, low-grossing indie picture, but the decision paid off when Juno became a breakout hit at the box office, earning Garner her best paycheck yet.

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong liked Bren's phrase "You didn't have to travel out to east Jesus nowhere" so much that he wrote a song called "East Jesus Nowhere" for their album 21st Century Breakdown.

The manga series "Most Fruitful Yuki" is a Japanese comic book. It was first released as a one-shot comic in 2001, but since its inclusion in this film, it has been translated into several languages (including English) and has developed a cult following.

Michael Cera discovered that he couldn't say his lines after eating a mouthful of tic-tacs. So he merely held the candy box up to his mouth but didn't eat any of it.

It was genuine wine, according to Jason Reitman, in the final scene where Vanessa is drinking. Jennifer Garner was a tad tipsy as they completed filming the sequence.

Juno's hairdo of a ponytail with long bangs on the sides of her face was created by Elliot Page, and they did their hair every day.

Jason Reitman utilized the seasons to frame the plot because he thought they resembled Juno's pregnancy's three trimesters.

Mistakes: Juno

  • Juno says Vanessa's name in surprise when she sees her outside in an elevator in the mall scene, but she mouths Jennifer (the actress' name, not the character's name). The 'J' is still audible.
  • Juno explains that her name is derived from the Greek goddess Zeus's wife. In truth, the Greek squad consisted of Zeus and Hera, while the Roman team consisted of Jupiter and Juno.
  • The Woman Now clinic has a single glass front door on the outside and a significantly larger double door on the inside.
  • The camera's reflection is visible in the glass when Juno is lying on her front windscreen at night, as it pans down to her in the shot.
  • The area code for St. Cloud, MN is 320 in Mark and Vanessa's PennySaver ad. Every other ad, on the other hand, lists the 310 area code, which is a Los Angeles, California area code.
  • The song "Doll Parts" is credited to Courtney Love in the end credits, but not to its co-writer, Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson.
  • When Bleeker is talking to Juno in the school hallway while holding a box of doughnut holes, the box shifts in his hands as the angle changes. Director Jason Reitman says in his DVD commentary that keeping the donut holes visible through the box in both camera angles was an intentional cheat (one that irritated his script supervisor!).
  • Juno's pregnancy test has no inner wrapping and no instructions in the box; it's simply the test itself.
  • Mark advises that he and Vanessa get a collaborative divorce from the same counsel. While they got it right that collaborative divorce is non-adversarial, each participant in collaborative law must have a lawyer.
